PROGRAMS
In the early 1990's, the Association of American Medical Colleges recognized the need to
provide House Staff Officers with the ability to maintain and increase disability coverage upon graduation regardless
of a pre-existing medical condition. In response, several nationally recognized insurance companies
introduced specially designed group long term disability insurance contracts that offer a significant level
of coverage during training and guarantee the right to obtain portable individual contracts without any
medical underwriting.
InsMed offers a number of programs that offer high quality protection to House Staff Officers
which begins during training and continues throughout their career.
Group LTD Conversion Plans
House Staff Officers can be guaranteed a high quality level of protection during their house staff program through
a group LTD conversion plan. In addition, the plan can guarantee the right to obtain coverage after the program
with no medical underwriting.
Supplemental Portable Disability Plans
Supplemental portable disability plans allow House Staff Officers to increase the level of coverage during their
training to as much as 100% income replacement. Also, the plan guarantees the right to coverage as income
increases in the years following their training.
As a House Staff Officer, you are exposed on a daily basis to conditions that could render you
uninsurable for the remainder of your training and professional career. Unfortunately, conventional group disability
insurance coverage only insures you during your residency program and if you develop a health condition you may be
unable to protect yourself upon graduation.
